1 Gold 2 Bronze

This edition of Olympics had brought great surprise and joy for the country. Abhinav Bindra did it for us in shooting earning us a much awaited gold. We also got 2 bronze medals thanks to Susheel Kumar, who won a bronze in 66Kg wrestling and to Vijayendar who got us a bronze in boxing.

I really don't know what was the last time India had 3 medals in one olympics. We need more champions like these.

Samsung Beat i450

Remember that Aamir Khan Samsung ad, yes I own a Samsung Beat i450.  I love the phone and the inbuilt media player. I think the two-way slide and scroll features are great. The 3D surround is amazing.  I had my eyes on the phone from the day I have seen it and was waiting for it to get cheaper but incidentally I brought it knowing that its prices are not going to go down early.

Now I plan to use all the features of the phone. Will keep updating as I discover the good and not so good things about the phone.

My Best Friend is No More my Friend :(

I am in great agony and pain while writing this blog entry. And to be honest I am not sure what to write. I am really hurt with what happened to me this week. 

Someone who was so close to me has decided to desert me. Yes, my best friend has decided that she doesn't want to keep in touch with me and she seemed very clear about what she wants.

She has been my best friend for sometime now. When me first met we connected really well. We became the best of buddies sharing every little thing. She became a part of my life. I enjoyed every moment that I was with her. She use to pamper me a lot. In fact, she ignored a lot of stupid things I did. I felt good that there is someone you can rely upon.

We use to fight a lot. And then I use to make it up to her. Every time we fought the bond between us became stronger. To be honest I started liking her a lot despite of the fact that she has a boyfriend. And everyone took notice of my liking for her. And then I told her how I felt about her and what she means to me. But she was not ready to get into a relationship and she had valid reasons for this. She told me that she cannot be what I want her to be but we can be best friends for a lifetime. I liked her honesty and decided that lets keep it that way only.  But deep inside me the desire for her kept burning. 

And then this happened. She started maintaining her distance from me. I kept asking but she did not replied. For six months this continued. And then one day when I called her up, I was surprised by what she did. My little angel had gone wicked. She said a lot of wicked things to me which I could never imagine she could say. But she kept saying and I kept listening. 

I was surprised to find out that the warmth inside her has suddenly gone. She was really cold and emotionless. The girl I knew was lost. She said she doesn't want to keep in touch. She said I am a very smart man and I play my moves smartly. She even told me that I should not be peeping into her private life.

I asked for reasons, but she has decided to leave me with this burden. I just want to ask her when did I played smart with her and took her advantage. I never lied to her about anything but still had this to say.

My world turned upside down. I was shocked. But I told her that if she doesn't want to keep in touch then let it be like that. My only concern is her happiness and if this makes her happy then let it be like that. And trust me guys, I will not make any attempts to reach out to her again. I just don't want to disturb or bother her anymore.

Some say she used me like the cheapest napkin that one can buy. Some say I was just a 2ND option for her. Some say its her habit to flirt. Some say she is just like that - COLD.

Whatever someone might say, I know what she meant to me. And even today if she needs me for anything I will be available to her. 

Those of you who happen to read this entry, please don't post comments and please don't ask questions. Because, how much I might write, no one can hear the voice inside me. And as sad as I might be, I know life goes on for everyone. And I wish for myself all the luck in the world.

A BUG In My LIFE!

Yes, guys.. my life is now being infected by a bug called HSK. This bug has its roots in Iran and now Gurgaon is its new habitat.

Before u guys go on to draw any conclusions, let me say that this is actually a person that I am talking about. You might have heard of parasites.. guess what.. i met one.

This guy is a complete a**h***. With no tech knowledge he is heading a team, a young team. And the team is suffering greatly because of this guy. He has a habit of shrugging responsibility of his shoulders. And I have confronted him about this a couple. But, I guess, Old Habits Die Hard. And those of this BUG are too old to be replaced.

We are actively working on an Anti-Virus solution for this bug, where we will either remove him completely from our hard disks or at least quarantine him.

Hunting for a Laptop

Its been time since I decided that I want to have a laptop of my own. The reason for me is simple, after sitting in a chair all day long I can't come home and sit on my desktop. A laptop is a must for me and I have great plans once I have it. 

So, I am in the market looking for 1. I am planning to go for Dell as it provides cutosmization. 

I might have my wish this month, and I have my fingres crossed.

My Blog is 1 year OLD

Hi, guys it has been more than I year since I started writing this blog. It all began last year in the month of June when I keyed in my first entry "Car Crash". Since then I have put 39 post on this blog. I have been sluggish in the last 4 months, otherwise I could have reached 50 entries.

I would hereby like to take a moment to thank each and everyone of you for taking out your time and reading my blog.

Sack KPS

1oth March 2008, saw one of the darkest day of Indian hockey. The eight time Olympic gold medalists could not even make it to the games this time. From 1928 to 2008 a lot has changed and to the demise of the entire nation it has changed for worse. The state of affairs has been alarming for a while now but yesterday's events has completely shocked the nation. Our national game has become a shame for us and a joke for many.

But who to blame for all this. If u ask for my opinion i would say the Indian Hockey Federation (IHF) is wholly and solely responsible for it. And to be precise it is the IHF chief for me. The man called KPS Gill has been sitting on this post for the last 14 years now. During this period he has ran the federation like a police gang. 14 years saw 18 coaches and every tournament saw a new team. What Mr. Gill is doing even he doesn't understand. But whatever it is, it is very depressing for the players and for the sport as a whole. Many of players have left the sport and are forced to pursue other careers. The reason is the lack of facilities that the players get and the lack of attention that the sport has. Mr. Gill travels by 1st class and players by 3rd class. Mr. Gill gets to stay in 5 star hotels while our players have to stay in hotels no one has ever heard of.

IHF claims it is a autonomous organization. But can u call an organization autonomous which is not able to generate its own revenue, which has no sponsors and which runs on the aid given by the government. I hope, Mr. Gill and the federation had a better definition of autonomous.

Hockey in our country is really going down the drain and if the situation continues like this, the day is not far when we will start saying that once hockey was our national sport.

A Messed Up Database :(

My new job and my first big assignment. A big database which is running wild with inconsistent and redundant data. Reason, bad database practices. There are hardly any relationships in the database. The constraints are something that have been completely avoided. And the Primary keys are not much to write home about.

And now it is my job to get everything running. I will be fixing the primary keys, the foreign keys and adding constraints. I don't know how i am going to do this since the database is overloaded with quite a handful of data. I might take an herculean attempt from me and the team to fix this baby up.

Software Architect :)

This is a moment of joy for me. I have got a new job and my new profile is Software Architect. Yes, I have hit the home run. I am elated and joyous about my new job. I am looking forward to the kind of projects that shall come my way. My focus will be on ASP.NET 2.0 and C#. Finally I will be able to focus on .NET technologies.

I know it might be too early to comment on anything but being optimistic is my nature. Well, lets see what plans future holds for me. Will write back soon...

DTC - Delhi Traffic Chaos

If put up in Delhi and u travel by buses u would know that it is an ordeal in itself. I have been traveling in buses for long and I know it is not easy. I was at Dhaula Kuan the other day and the scene there just freaked me out. U would not find a bus stand at this place but a long stretch that is treated as a bus stand and the DTC bus drivers follow their instincts to park the bus at the place they like the most. They drive as if they want to drive over u. U r at ur own cost and risk at this place. Keep ur eyes open or ur next breath could very well be ur last. Adding to the drama are the Haryana Roadways guys. They seem to have a will of their own. They also doesn't quite seem to understand where the bus stand is. And how can we forget the priavte bus operators. They want to make hay all the time. Their drivers will wait at stands until the bus can take nomore. And then there is the mad crowd. Whenever a bus comes people run towards it like it is a money train. Everyone wants a space in the same bus. No one seems to be willing to wait an extra minute. All this makes DTC and traveling in Delhi a horrifying experience in itself.

But could we really blame the bus drivers, the conductors or the crowds. In my opinion, there is a big problem in the way buses are driven in Delhi. Fisrtly, we don't have a figure for the maximum number of passangers that may be allowed in a bus. Secondly, our people are not used to stand up in queues and wait for their turns to get into a bus. And lastly, we have too few bus.
One also cannot ignore the poor skills of bus drivers. DTC, as a report said could not find enough bus drivers to drive their buses.

All said, I think people like me can only be a victim of the circumstances. There is very little a common man can actually do. How has the time? Everyone is busy in making their careers. Anyways this is not going to solve the problem, so I better leave it here... will write back soon.

login\gauravs logged off - One Final Time

If u r a bit confused about the title of this entry then let me tell u that gauravs is my username and login is the domain to which i have been logging in for the last 2.5 years. And 02 Feb 2008 marked the day when this account was logged off one final time. Yes, I have left my present company and am looking to follow new endeavours in life.

I had resigned in early Jan and was serving my 30 day notice period. Well, I was wanting the days to get over as quickly as possible but it seemed like a race to death for me. It is over now. And technically I should be happy. But believe I am not.

Last evening was perhaps one of the longest evenings of my life. But the realisation didn't hit me immediately. But when it did it was hard for me to hold back my emotions. The route from Okhla to Moti Bagh became the longest route of my life and in an unassumingly long journey I looked at each landmark that came in my way - Kalkaji Depot, Nehru Place, Lady Shriram College and many more are some of the landmarks that I wont be seeing anytime sooner now.

I had never thought that this will be so difficult for me, but trust me it was. Leaving the people u have been working with for a long time now is not easy, especailly those whose wavelenghts mactches your. I will miss one and all of my team members that I have left behind.

But I guess that is the way life is. You have to lose some to get some. I hope this phase passes really soon for me coz I don't like being down for too long. May God help me.

The Longest Month

Yes, January 2008 has been the longest month of my life. Not because it has 31 days but because I have not been able to get through this at a pace that I would have liked.

I resigned at the beginning of the month and since then I have been itching to leave.  But the days just won't get over. And to tell u the truth the feeling is also not great. U know u have to go and u r counting ur days and u have people who r keeping a good eye on you.

Well, i can only wait.

The One Lakh Dream

Tata's One Lakh dream finally came to life on this 12th at the 9th Auto Expo. The much awaited and anticipated car called the Nano was unveiled by Tata om 12th Jan 2008. And the car has lived to all the hype that was created before its launch.

Compact but yet full of features, this car caught the eye of one and all. In fact, Tata's stall at the expo was among the ones that drew huge crowds.

As per my personal opinion the car looks good and is sure good value for money. But Tata is still to run the road tests and find out if this car would actually work for a common man.

The car would be made available in September this year. Well, all those who want to own a Nano should keep their fingres crossed :)

Serving Notice Period :)

Yes, I have resigned I am serving my notice period of 30 days with my company. It all began around August, when even after me saying a lot of times that I am underpaid my salary was not raised. What followed was nothing less than a nightmare for me.

My CEO took a different approach at it, instead of talking to me he kept pushing the TL to talk to me which is not really a great strategy. I had also pointed out a number of problems and instead of solving them he started picking on me for any reason right or wrong. I was treated as a scum bag.

Every little argument I had with someone was taken as a opportunity by my CEO to take it out on me. He kept telling me "u need to change", irrespective of the fact who started it all or who was right or who was wrong. I still wonder why can't others change. What all he says to me why can't he say it to others. Maybe he is scared of his own employees.

My CEO thought that I am pointing fingers at him by saying that I am not fairly paid. He took it as a personal attack. So, he started pointing fingers back at me. He thought he could break down my self-confidence, but he couldn't, I had seen worst.

He started crossing every little limit that there existed. But he really crossed it the day he had a word with me about my certification exams. I told him I am not giving my exams coz that will lead to my appraisal and an appraisal meant a 2 month notice period. He yelled at me "Do u like working here?" I wonder what gives him the right to yell at me. I am not his servant.

This incident really pissed me off And somewhere in my heart I decided that now I will leave.

But what really lead to this was the incident that took place about 45 days back in November. We had to go live with a project and my TL had done a horrendous job with the time lines. Well, we were over the target by 15 days. My TL went on this marriage leave. It is then when it all happened.

My CEO sat with me one evening doing the fine tuning of the application and the he told me that he sit with regarding the same the very next day. But, the next day he came in and shouted at me "Is it ready?" Dude, just the last day you had said that you would like to sit with me regarding the application.

Now I as really pissed. And I took a definitive decision to quit. And a month later I resigned.

This is the major but not the only factor for my quitting this job:
1. CEO plays like a puppet in hands of his trusted.
2. Some people are the exception to every rule. There is huge partiality in the organization.
3. I work my ass off for what I get, others who get double don't put in any efforts.
4. The need of the hour is a proper HR which he don't have in place for a little too long now.
5. No growth here.
6. I am stuck in HTML/CSS/Javascript. There should be an equal division of work.

I am hughely relieved that I have resigned.
